"When Lana and her father return to their seaside hometown to help clear the debris of a storm, the last thing she expects is to discover a colony of Aquicorns—magical seahorse-like residents of the coral reef. As she explores the damaged town and the fabled undersea palace, Lana learns that while she cannot always count on adults to be the guardians she needs, she herself is capable of finding the strength to protect both the ocean, and her own happiness."
Aquicorn Cove is a standalone fantasy graphic novel by Kay O'Neill, the author of the Tea Dragon series.
As with all of Kay's graphic novels, the creatures she creates are absolutely adorable. I didn't like this as much as Tea Dragon but this one had a more impactful message that should be told to children and this book is a great medium to do so. The message of this novel can be best described through the forward.
"This book is for everyone who protects the sea, and for those who will inherit the responsibility. Thank you for taking care of our beautiful world."
It's also great how at the end of the book she put blurbs about coral reefs, how they are being damaged and how to stop it. This was a great way to talk about a huge environmental issue while also making it fun to read.
