June 2022 | In Review

I am going to be honest with you, Solo Leveling put me back in a bit of a slump. After finishing it, I was just not having any luck with physical books, because I kept DNFing all the ones I picked up. While I still consider that a good thing because I cut down on my TBR, it is making me realize that all I want to be reading right now are manga, manhwa, or webcomics.

The issue there though is that I've got a massive TBR that keeps getting bigger, so I don't want to devote all my time to reading those (even though they are what clearly work for me). Nonetheless, I did manage to get through some books this month (including some new releases) and even ended up finishing a series, although I wasn't expecting to.

Enough talking now though, onto the statistics!

I read 5 books, 6 volumes of manga, and 2 manhwas for a grand total of 13 titles and roughly 6.009 pages read.

Here are all the books I read. If you want to check out my reviews, click on the pink links!

Like last month, I ended up DNFing tons of books, 4 in total to be exact. All of the were all new releases as well, which is kind of disappointing. I feel like I should just stay away from newly released YA books... Back on track though, here are all the books I put down and why:

The Paradox Hotel by Rob Hart

I knew right away that I probably wasn't going to enjoy this book. I was confused, and I already didn't like the main character, so I didn't want to slog my way through it.

The Department of Rare Books and Special Collections by Eva Jurczyk

I had a very simple reason for DNFing this book - it was boring. Nothing about this book spoke to me.

A Magic Steeped in Poison by Judy I. Lin

With this book, it all came down to the writing. I found it rather awkwardly written, and I just couldn't get into the book because of it.

Hotel Magnifique by Emily J. Taylor

This was just a miss for me, for several reasons. I didn't like the writing or the direction of the story, and I had the feeling that the main character was going to be annoying.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.

Honestly, this wasn't a bad reading month. I consider having only two 2-star ratings a bit of a win.

Genres

Fantasy - 9

Mystery - 1

Romance - 3

I read a lot of manga this month, which all ended up counting as fantasy. Even the romance mangas/manhwas were all fantasy as well, along with the one mystery book. So, technically, every single thing I read this month was fantastical, which I won't complain about.

Best of the Month - Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku

Worst of the Month - Wake the Bones
