Legends & Lattes | Review

Rating - ⭐⭐⭐⭐

"Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv the orc barbarian cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen.

However, her dreams of a fresh start pulling shots instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners and a different kind of resolve.

A hot cup of fantasy slice-of-life with a dollop of romantic froth."

Legends & Lattes is a standalone fantasy novel by Travis Baldree.

With a tagline like 'a high fantasy novel with low stakes', you had me immediately intrigued. I am also always on the hunt for fantasy novels involving inns and such, so I was really hoping this would scratch that itch. And, for the most part, it did because this was a rather charming novel.

This novel answers the question 'what does an adventurer do when their adventuring days are over'? In Viv's case, it is opening up a coffee shop. While that may seem like a daunting task for one person, she is joined by a diverse cast of characters who all end up feeling like family (and maybe more than that for some). My favourite among them is definitely Thimble because he is small and shy and can bake like a wonder.
