Milk and Honey

"Milk and honey' is a collection of poetry and prose about survival. About the experience of violence, abuse, love, loss, and femininity. It is split into four chapters, and each chapter serves a different purpose. Deals with a different pain. Heals a different heartache. 'milk and honey' takes readers through a journey of the most bitter moments in life and finds sweetness in them because there is sweetness everywhere if you are just willing to look."

Milk and Honey is a poetry collection by Rupi Kaur.

I don’t know how to go about rating a book like this, so I won’t. I don’t feel that’s it’s right to rate something so raw and visceral and personal as this. This wasn’t what was I was expecting but I also went in with no expectations.

I was surprised by this as I did find a lot of what was being said insightful. I know a lot of people compare this to tumblr poetry, but as someone who doesn't read poetry nor spends time on tumblr, that didn't bother me.

With nothing else to say about this, I will leave you with some of my favourite quotes from the book.

“Who tricked you into believing another person was meant to complete you when the most they can do is complement."

“Our backs tell stories no books have the spine to carry.”

“If you are not enough for yourself you will never be enough for someone else.”
