My Best Friend's Exorcism | Mini Review

Rating - ⭐⭐⭐

"Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since fifth grade, when they bonded over a shared love of E.T., roller-skating parties, and scratch-and-sniff stickers. But when they arrive at high school, things change. Gretchen begins to act….different. And as the strange coincidences and bizarre behavior start to pile up, Abby realizes there’s only one possible explanation: Gretchen, her favorite person in the world, has a demon living inside her. And Abby is not about to let anyone or anything come between her and her best friend. With help from some unlikely allies, Abby embarks on a quest to save Gretchen. But is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil?"

My Best Friend's Exorcism is a standalone horror novel by Grady Hendrix.

I don't mind Grady Hendrix as an author but I can't say he is someone I would reach for first. Horrorstor was rather middling for me and The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires was better than I expected it to be, but overall I don't think I found a book that 'wowed' me. And this book was no different. I listened to this on audiobook and while I liked the narrator the book was...not exactly what I wanted it to be.

This was about 90% teen drama and angst, and therefore I found myself mostly uninteresting in what was happening. Another major flaw for me was the fact that I was also not interested in Abby and Gretchen and their friendship, or any of the characters really. There was only, to be specific, one scene at the end of the book that I liked and the rest was very mid.

I saw someone's review saying they should have rewatched Jennifer's Body instead, and I completely agree with that. I think that maybe Grady is just not the author for me.
