"When a S-Rank Gate suddenly spawns in Tokyo and the S-Rank strike squad assembled by the Japanese government proves to be too weak to handle it properly, Jinwoo decides to step in and do the job himself."
The Japan Crisis Arc is the 17th arc in Solo Leveling, a webtoon adapted from the web novel by Chugong, with art by DUBU (REDICE STUDIO) and story by h-goon. This arc consists of chapters 132-139 of the webtoon.
We've got, well, a lot of fighting in this arc and pretty much not much else.
Let's get into the details.
PLOT
Oddly enough, I don't have much to say about what happened in this arc since it was pretty standard. We got some fighting, and we got some answers, that is pretty much it.
WORLD-BUILDING
Not too much to note here, but we do learn more about the beasts and the higher beings who are behind everything.
CHARACTERS
Like in the Jeju Island arc, we see the reappearance of Jinwoo and his slightly questionable motives. By helping Japan with their S-Rank gate, Jinwoo said that it would give the Ahjin Guild worldly recognition. Don't exactly think that should be your takeaway for helping bud, it would be that you are saving lives... On the other hand, though, Jinwoo also makes another choice in this that was selfless.
Jinwoo's appearance has also changed, which is a small but noticeable detail that I rather like. While I liked his blue aura, having a purple aura to match his recently gained black heart makes sense.
Aside from Jinwoo, the only other character who is notable is someone who was mentioned only once previously, but now we get to match a name to a face.
CONCLUDING THOUGHTS
Not the most exciting arc ever, but we did advance the plot at least. We also ended off in a good spot, with the main plot point finished, a lighter ending, and a hint of what is to come.
Time for some spoilery thoughts now. If you don't want to be spoiled, you can stop reading now.
