"The Murderbot Diaries, by Martha Wells, is an action-packed, cerebral science fiction series about a murderous, self-hacking robot searching for the meaning of life."
As these are novellas and are thus rather short, I decided to to a bulk review of books 1-4.
Murderbot is just a shy boi who just wants to binge-watch his favourite show and I am here for that. I was unsure how I was feeling while listening since because it is a novella, the plot wasn't going to be overly elaborate.
However, Murderbots personality won me over. I loved that his name is the opposite of how he actually acts. He's awkward with people and can't stand them looking at him. Some of his internal quips also got a few snorts out of me.
My favorite bit was when one of the crewmembers said how there was no way Murderbot could have been watching that many episodes of his soap opera, and he thought 'you underestimate me.' What a fantastic modern response.
Past book 1 though, my thought for the rest of the series was that it was just okay. It still had it small moments of humour and Murderbot is still a great character, but I wasn't too into the stories being told, which is devastating considering how many people love this series.
It didn't quite hit the mark for me, but I would still say this is a good sci-fi series to read as they are short and the audiobooks are well done.
