"This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams.
Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the Watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans—and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time.
Afraid and trapped among strangers, Mina is desperate for answers. Who are the Watchers? Why are these creatures keeping them imprisoned? And, most importantly, how can she escape?"
The Watchers is the first book in a horror series by A.M. Shine.
This book was buried and forgotten in my TBR, and I only remembered it existed when I saw the trailer for the movie and thought the title sounded familiar.
This book was rather simple, and simple is not always best. We follow a group of characters who are stuck in a coop in the middle of the forest and are subjected to being watched by beings when a specific light is on. In isolation, they are forced to survive while trying to find a way to escape, though their efforts had been futile up until Mina unwillingly joined them.
This story had potential, it just took way too long to show it. The majority of the book is just them stuck in the coop with not much happening, and the story only picks up and gets interesting at the end. And while the end did grab my attention, it was not nearly enough to make me want to read the next book.
