This week for Tag Time, I am going to be doing a pretty straightforward tag - do I prefer this or that? I think that this would be a good way to reflect both on my reading preferences an what I have been reading in general.
I am unsure who the original creator of the tag is (credit goes to them), but I found this on Zezee with Books.
Here we go!
READING ON THE COUCH OR THE BED?
I like to read pretty much anywhere as long as it is quite enough for me to focus properly. When I am on the couch, unless it is during the day, the TV is usually on and I get too distracted to read. So, I am going to go with reading on the book because I can stretch out and get comfy, and it is quiet too.
MALE MAIN CHARACTER OR FEMALE MAIN CHARACTER?
The books I tend to read generally end up having a female main character, so because of that, I will go with female instead of male. That being said though, about 99% of the time I find the female lead to be incredibly annoying so...I probably would actually prefer a male lead.
SWEET SNACKS OR SALTY SNACKS WHEN READING?
I usually don't eat while I am reading because then I just end up getting distracted by the food. If I would have to choose though I would pick sweet because there are a lot of great options where you can just grab a handful and shove it in your mouth for convenience.
TRILOGIES OR QUARTETS?
I am not too picky as long as the series is interesting and it wraps up cleanly. I will say trilogies though since that number makes a lot more sense to me than four books.
FIRST-PERSON OR THIRD-PERSON?
I don't pay that much attention to the perspective to really have a preferred one, but maybe third-person? With first-person you end up getting a lot of internal monologues which I find isn't always necessary to the narrative. With third-person there is less fluffing and everything is told as it is.
READING AT NIGHT OR IN THE MORNING?
While I liked to read both at night and in the morning, I get the majority of my reading done at night. All nice and comfy in bed with no noise to distract me, I can really get into the book I am reading and end up getting through a good chunk of the book.
LIBRARIES OR BOOKSTORES?
Library all the way. Sure the bookstore is more likely to have the book you are looking for, but not only is the library free, the ebooks come with different sized fonts. That way, I don't have to strain my eyes reading the tiny fonts physicals books have.
BOOKS THAT MAKE YOU LAUGH OR MAKE YOU CRY?
In all honesty, neither. I don't actively look for books that will make me cry, and I am not that into comedy.
BLACK BOOK COVERS OR WHITE BOOK COVERS?
I love a good colourful cover, but if I had had to choose maybe black? I feel like a white colour is just too bright and clean.
CHARACTER-DRIVEN OR PLOT-DRIVEN STORIES?
As you can tell from my answer to the second question, I tend to dislike the majority of the characters in the books I read. That makes this question complicated for me because I would still say character-driven. I think that no matter how good the plot of the book is, if I don't like the characters then my enjoyment of the story is going to decrease.
