"Agnieszka loves her valley home, her quiet village, the forests and the bright shining river. But the corrupted Wood stands on the border, full of malevolent power, and its shadow lies over her life.

Her people rely on the cold, driven wizard known only as the Dragon to keep its powers at bay. But he demands a terrible price for his help: one young woman handed over to serve him for ten years, a fate almost as terrible as falling to the Wood.

The next choosing is fast approaching, and Agnieszka is afraid. She knows—everyone knows—that the Dragon will take Kasia: beautiful, graceful, brave Kasia, all the things Agnieszka isn’t, and her dearest friend in the world. And there is no way to save her.

But Agnieszka fears the wrong things. For when the Dragon comes, it is not Kasia he will choose."

Uprooted is a standalone YA fantasy novel by Naomi Novik.

I would like to say this worked for me, but as the second book that takes inspiration from fairy tales that I didn't really like, that is just not the case.

I just didn't really care about anything that happened in this. The connection between the dragon and the main character was probably the most interesting thing about the story and even that still wasn't very good as their relationship was kind of uncomfortable.

By the time you make it halfway through the book, I felt like the plot declined even more. I just don't get why the book went in the direction it did since I felt like it did not improve the plot. I also felt like the book could have ended earlier on and anything past that just dragged on.

While many people have a lot of love for this book, I just don't think it was for me.
